Cherry Trees in DC

The spectacular cherry trees planted around the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C. have come to symbolize the natural beauty of our nation's capital city. The twisting and graceful trees are a gift from Japan in 1912. Every year,Washington celebrates spring with an explosion of  color that surrounds the Tidal Basin with pale pink and white blossoms. Thousands of residents and visitors from across the nation and around the world come here to witness the spectacle, hoping that the trees will be at the peak of bloom for the Cherry Blossom Festival. Every year the timing is different, and in 2013 the trees were at their peak bloom on April 9th.
