Washington Monument Trivia

We hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! Thanks for stopping by to check out our blog- where you can find helpful info, news, and maybe a few new discoveries about the Washington, DC area. Here are a couple of facts about the Washington Monument:

There are 898 steps to the top of the monument, and 193 memorial
stones line the inside of the monument as gifts from the 50 states and
many foreign governments. The steps are closed to the public, who instead utilize an elevator. The elevator in the monument moves at a blinding speed of 500 feet in slightly under 70 seconds. Whoosh!

Japan has had a rough time with natural disasters the last few years. Early Saturday, another earthquake struck the east coast of Japan. Thankfully the center of the quake (which struck at 2:00 a.m. Tokoyo Time) was far offshore. Yes...no damage was reported and it was a magnitude of 7.3 on the Richter scale!

Fletcher’s Cove

Fletcher’s Cove or as some might say- Fletcher’s Boathouse, is a bike and boat rental facility along the Potomac River. It’s a perfect place to enjoy some fishing, cycling, or maybe a restful picnic. You can pick up a fishing license there and any bait or tackle you might need. The river has a wide variety of fish such as walleye, catfish, striped bass, and shad. Enjoy a day at the Cove!
