Harvest Moon Tonight

Long before electricity was around, farmers needed to extend their workdays by gathering their crops by moonlight. It was the only way they could find the extra hours needed to harvest in time for market. This explains why the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox became known as the “Harvest Moon”. So, grab you camera and check out the spectacular Harvest Moon tonight as it rises just after sunset.  Because Washington, DC is in the northern hemisphere, the autumnal equinox lands on September 22 this year. In a few days we can say a big goodbye to summer!
