Holiday Stuffing Recipe Made Easy

We hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend in Washington, DC! With the holiday season being right around the corner, we wanted to share with you this simple stuffing recipe. You can even make it the night before. Enjoy!

Stuffing Recipe

1 stick unsalted butter

1 large onion diced

6 stalks of celery diced

3 bay leaves

Ground sage and poultry seasoning to taste

Salt and pepper to taste

1 bag of stuffing bread cubes

2 eggs

Chicken stock as needed for moisture

Sauté onion and celery in melted butter. Add spices. Cook on medium heat stirring often until translucent. Put bread cubes in large bowl, add onions/celery mixture to bowl and let cool. Add 1 cup of stock and the two eggs. Mix well…add more stock as needed to make a wet mixture. Bake in preheated oven at 350F for 45 minutes. The dish should be covered in the oven to retain moisture. If you like the top to be crispier, remove cover the last 10 minutes and check often to make sure it doesn’t burn. This can be prepared the night before and kept in the refrigerator (it’s even tastier).

Black Friday Arriving On A Thursday?

 Yes...the word is out....some retailers are trying to get an earlier jump on the normal holiday shopping season. Now, not everyone is hopping on the band wagon. Nordstrom is sticking to their usual plans and offering customers addition saving on Black Friday. However- Wal- Mart, Toys R US, and Target will be opened longer on Thanksgiving and even roll out some of the usual black Friday deals that day (on Turkey Day). Sounds like a shopping frenzy is on the way... and maybe a few good deals will be found! Veteran’s Day at Arlington National Cemetery

There will be a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery on November 11 at the Tomb of the Unknowns. This is a free ceremony that begins early in the morning and concludes at noon. They recommend that you arrive early as the space is limited. A free shuttle service will begin running at 8:00 a.m. from Arlington National Cemetery Welcome Center. Once the full capacity has been reach, (possibly around 10:30 a.m.) the entrance will be closed.

Polar Bear Migration

Today we're going to take you on a little journey to the north. Actually...it's way, way north! Did you know that polar bears go through an annual migration in Canada? It happens right near one small town of Churchill, Manitoba. In fact, every year, this little town of only 800 residents experiences more than one thousand bears on their journey for food. Polar bears make their way near Churchill while making way towards their feeding grounds on the ice covered Hudson Bay. Their main diet of seals (high protein and fat), allows them to build up the necessary layer of 4.5 inches of fur, hide, and blubber to survive the cold winters. Kids Euro Festival in DC

In its sixth year, the Kids Euro Festival in Washington, DC is going on right now through November 13. The public libraries have partnered with the festival so the events can move throughout the city at various locations. This is a festival of European arts and culture that presents more than 200 free activities to metro-area families. The performances include concerts, workshops, movies, storytelling, puppetry, dance, magic, and cinema. The goal of the Festival is simply to create a European artistic adventure for young people and their families. You don’t even need a passport or airline tickets for a flight over “The Pond”.

Don't Miss This Solar Eclipse!

You’ll have a chance to experience a partial solar eclipse over much of the eastern United States if you awaken early tomorrow morning. It should begin to take place around 6:30 a.m. and,  it  can be seen as far west as eastern Ohio, eastern Kentucky, eastern Tennessee and most of Georgia. Remember to do a little research on the internet on viewing the eclipse safely. For those of you not located in the viewing areas, you should also be able to see live streaming video on-line at space.com. These are pretty rare occurrences so..enjoy yourself because- the next viewing for a solar eclipse in our country won’t happen until August 21, 2017.
