In 1955, Marjorie Hillwood Post bought the Hillwood property
and decided to turn her home into a museum that would be used to educate and inspire
the public. Located only 5 miles from the downtown DC area, this wonderful estate
has one of the country’s largest collections of Russian imperial art outside of
Russia. It also has a very extensive 18th Century French decorative
art collection and 25 acres of peaceful landscaped gardens and natural forest.
The estate was opened in 1977 to the public and is a welcome oasis worth
exploring.
