Unusual Summer House A Great Stop When Visiting Military Housing

 I found an unusual site to visit when I was last in Washington DC.  When you are staying in our military housing this summer get a look at the Summer House at the Capitol. The Summer House is a small, red hexagonal brick building just downhill of the Capitol Building on the northwest side. It looks like an old World War II bunker and has red brick and tile in an unusual style. It was built in about 1880 as a place for visitors to stop to get water on their way to the Capitol Building. Because there was a natural spring that bubbled up there, the building was built around it.  There are benches and shady areas to rest. In the original design the water gathered in a large bowl and ladles were set around it for drinking.  As the water ran off it was directed down a carillon that was supposed to make music.  It never worked..........

Today the water is supplied by the city, not the spring. The red tiles and other areas are showing wear, but it is a very unique site that most people don't know exists.

Visit Vietnam Memorial Wall When Living In Military Housing

No trip to the Nations Capital would be complete without visiting the many monuments and memorials on the Mall.  Be sure to see the Vietnam Veterans Memorial while living in  military housing this summer.  Truly awe inspiring this memorial must be seen and touched to really be appreciated.  Emotional and moving you can't help but ache when you see it. A directory of names is available to look at and find each person listed.  If you have family or friends that were lost in the Vietnam War, don't miss finding them on the wall.  Photograph, or trace their name and take this with you when you leave.  Considered "The Wall That Heals", it honors the 58,000 men and women who lost their lives in this controversial war.

Visit Botanic Garden When Living In Military Housing

Car Show For Fathers Day Celebration When Corporate Housing Is Your Home This Week

Celebrate Father's Day June 15th at the Crystal City Car Show from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm at 2121 Crystal Drive & 220 20th Street South.  On display will be a variety of automobile categories including innovative electric vehicles, sports cars, classic muscle cars, and more. Fairfax Festival Happening This Weekend. Don't Miss The Fun While You Are Staying In Our Corporate Housing

Hall & Oates Tour In Area While You Live In Corporate Housing

You may not tell everyone.............but you know you love Hall & Oates.  And, on June 19th you will have a chance to see them in concert if you are staying in the DC area in corporate housing. Annapolis Art, Craft and Wine Fest On Tap While You Live In Corporate Housing

The Annapolis Arts, Crafts and Wine Festival is a two-day celebration of the arts in Annapolis, Maryland featuring the  works of more than 200 fine artists and craftsmen. Celebrate 200th Anniversary Of The Star Spangled Banner While Living In DC Corporate Housing

Celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Star Spangled Banner while you are staying in our corporate housing this June.  In celebration of the bicentennial of one of the nation's most iconic symbols, a variety of events will be held this summer in Washington DC and around the region. On Flag Day, June 14th, visitors are invited to "Raise It Up!" by gathering at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History to sing the national anthem. The event kicks off at 2:30 p.m. EDT with performances by a 500-person choir conducted by Grammy-winning composer Eric Whitacre and MacArthur 'genius' Fellow Francisco J. Núñez as well as performances by The U.S. Air Force Band and Singing Sergeants led by commander and conductor Col. Larry Lang. In addition, from June 14th through July 6th the original manuscript of the Star Spangled Banner lyrics will be on display with the flag that Key saw that inspired him.  You can see the 30 X 40 foot flag and manuscript side by side.  Other items of significance will also be on display.

Enjoy Herndon Festival While Living In Your Corporate Housing Venue In May

Visit downtown Herndon Virginia while you stay in corporate housing for the Herndon Festival. The Herndon Festival is a summer event, hosted by the Town of Herndon, Virginia and the Parks and Recreation Department.The event features live entertainment, international foods, carnival rides and games and children's entertainment. There's even a business exposition, 10k & 5k races, a Fitness expo and model railway exhibit.  Numerous arts and crafts booths, handmade items for sale and two fireworks displays have been added this year.  The event is the largest FREE festival in Northern Virginia. Great Musical Event Happens While You Stay In Corporate Housing

 When you are living in corporate housing over this Memorial Day weekend you can witness and participate in a fantastic PBS event.  Free and open to the public you can be in the audience of the live performance and taping of the PBS National Memorial Day Concert.  It will be held on the west lawn of the US Capitol building.  Take the metro and use the Federal Center SW and the Union Station lines.  The gates will open at 5:00 pm and remember you will go through a security checkpoint.  So, best idea is to leave all packages at home.   The concert begins at 8:00 pm and will be hosted by Gary Sinise and Joe Mantegna.  This will be the only opportunity for you to hear some amazing performers and military bands, orchestra and vocalists.  Hear the National Symphony Orchestra, the US Army Chorus, the US Navy Band Sea Chanters, and the US Air Force Singing Sergeants.  Well known performers Jennifer Nettles, Danielle Bradbery, Jackie Evancho and Anthony Kearns will also be featured.

View "Blue Angels" Airshow When You Stay In Corporate Housing

 Blue Angels Airshow scheduled in Annapolis on May 21st, 2014.  The Blue Angels Air Shows demonstrate choreographed flight skills of the U.S. Navy's Flight Demonstration Squadron. The air shows include graceful fast-paced aerobatic maneuvers of two, four and six planes flying in formation. The Blue Angels are scheduled to fly at approximately 35 air show sites in the United States each year.  And while you are living in DC corporate housing you will have a chance this month to see them.  If you want to learn more about the Blue Angels visit their website and check out the FAQ page.  You can learn about their origin and the training they go through to become a pilot.  You can also learn about their history and why they are called "Blue Angels".   Set aside some time and don't miss this event.  In addition on May 23 the angels will do a flyover at the Naval Academy graduation ceremony.  So, when you're in the area............  listen for the roar!
